The Master Authority

Master’s Responsibility on a DP Drilling unit:

The Master is responsible for DP station keeping, general safety & pollution prevention, regulatory compliance, ship stability, safe navigation and collision avoidance, ISM/MODU Code compliance and implementation, and emergency preparedness training.

The Master has the responsibility and authority under IMO convention A.443.(XI) to operate in a manner consistent with safety of human life, equipment and protection of the marine environment (Refer to Section 1, subsection 3).

With his experience and knowledge of Marine Operations he is authorized to make decisions that may effect the overall DP Drilling operation.
